Reflection on FATIH project

As I understood, FATIH is a technology based project which aims to improve the quality of education and effectively use the technology in education area. The project is not obligatory and it consist 5 components. These components are based on improving the technology that are being used, adding new technological components and structures and improving the usage of these technologies by improving the content these structures and components use.

I think usage of a system centralized around a network is efficient, however since the network we are going to use is going to be a very important component of the system we are designing this system must be made carefully and work properly. I think the EBA with its modules generally looks fine, it has a lot of content such as; e-books, videos, audios and other media content, These are the main contents that aim the student so they must be picked carefully, but the variety of the educational content is also important, it lets students to discover new ways of looking at a subject . The system also has a forum for teachers, this provides a communication area for all of the teachers and allows them to talk about their common problems about the system and give feedback to each other. I think an area for the teachers in an educational network is a must, and EBA delivers it.

The FATIH project aims to use tablets and smart screens in classes. I think that this is a big change, since this project directly adds smart screens to the classes instead of the regular chalkboard and puts tablets in the hands of the students instead of books. In my opinion this is a critical error that was done when the project started. The reforms like these in any area shouldn’t be done all at once, it should be done step by step. But the FATIH project tried to do all these technological reforms all at once, and it suffered the consequences of it. Firstly most of the students which only used tablets or smart phones in their lifes for entertainment were given tablets one day to use in ‘education’. There were no primary education to show the students how to use these technology or the benefits of the usage of these kinds of technology in educational area( at least that was what i experienced in high school.), and secondly the teachers from the age groups of 25 to 60 were given a huge smart screen to use in their classes. These situations resulted in 1. Students using the technology aimed for education for their entertainment purposes 2. teachers who were not capable of using the smart screen technology to waste their important lesson time to trying to understand the smart screen.

In conclusion, i think use of technology in education is very important in the age we are currently in, but since this is such an important matter it shouldn’t be done without proper planning and pre-education for the aimed users of the technology.
